Celtic facing UEFA punishment over anti-establishment banner

Celtic facing UEFA action over 'f*** the Crown' banner displayed by fans

CELTIC are facing potential UEFA sanctions following a banner displayed by fans in Warsaw last night.

A sign reading 'f*** the Crown' was unveiled in the away section of the stadium ahead of the Hoops' clash with Shakhtar Donetsk.

It came in the first round of matches since the passing of Queen Elizabeth last week.

Another banner mocked the loss of the Queen too. It read: "Sorry for your loss Michael Fagan."

It sparked an apology from BT Sport's commentators.

Now, it appears the Scottish champions could receive UEFA punishment because of the banner.

A statement from the governing body read: "Proceedings have been opened against Celtic FC regarding a banner displayed during their UEFA Champions League match against FC Shakhtar Donetsk played on September 14 in Warsaw.

"The UEFA disciplinary bodies will decide on the matter in due course."
