Celtic face stiff Euro competition for summer transfer target as £3.5m bid tabled

Belgian side Genk have made a £3.5 million offer for Celtic target Niko Sigur.

And they could try and tie up the deal for the Canadian international up today.

Celtic have been strongly linked with the Hajduk Split star for most of the summer, but the Croatian club have refused to sell him until they have completed their European preliminary rounds.

And Genk appear to have raced to the front of the queue, after former Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou's Toulouse side reportedly made a £2.5 million offer earlier this week, which was immediately rejected.

Sigur has made it clear he wants to leave the club after a strong showing at the World Cup and now has plenty of options.

And, after Hajduk completed their Europa Conference League play-off tie against Rakow Czestochowa last night, they are expected to sell the 22-year-old, who can play as a right back or a holding midfielder.
