Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers a contender as shock Newcastle manager odds emerge

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is among the bookies favourites to take over at Newcastle should Eddie Howe leave the role.

The St James' Park side have lost their last three matches in all competitions while also recently being knocked out of the Champions League and League Cup.

And the bookmakers think the Parkhead manager could be in the hunt for the position if it becomes available.

This is according to Gambling.com who state that "Rodgers is among the favourites with bookmakers to be the next Newcastle manager - with odds of 7/1".

Jose Mourinho is the current favourite at 3/1 but he could face stiff competition for the role from the likes of Graham Potter is currently listed at 4/1.

Zinedine Zidane is another contender at 5/1.

Meanwhile, Nick Walsh will be the man in the middle for the upcoming derby between Celtic and Rangers.

He has been named as the referee for the highly-anticipated derby clash on Saturday, December 30.

Celtic lead the way at the summit of the Premiership by five points after defeating Dundee 3-0 this afternoon.

Philippe Clement's side are in action tomorrow evening at home to Ross County, where they will look to reduce that gap back to two to then leapfrog the champions at the weekend.

Walsh has experience of officiating the fixture. The Scottish FA has entrusted him to handle the occasion.

He will be assisted by Graeme Stewart and Calum Spence.

Willie Collum will be on VAR and his assistant Daniel McFarlane. Kevin Clancy will be the fourth official.
