Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou addresses Brighton exit talk as he sends 'not really relevant' message

Ange Postecoglou has spoken out for the first time on links with Brighton as he branded talk 'not really relevant' as he bids on being as successful as possible for Celtic.

The Seagulls are on the lookout for a new boss following Graham Potter's decision to quit the club for Chelsea after the English Premier League giants sacked Thomas Tuchel. That move has opened the door for a job in England's top league with reports stating that the Aussie boss was a 'strong contender' on a shortlist of names wanted in the door.

Postecoglou arrived at Celtic Park last summer and enjoyed a debut campaign to remember by recapturing the Premiership crown from Rangers and lifting the Premier Sports Cup. They've started the current campaign in stunning form winning six from six domestically and netted 25 goals in the process. A return to the Champions League was also reward for the success of last season with the Hoops up against Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Such success has seen the 57-year-old's name in the frame for an exit from Parkhead, but he isn't interested in outside noise and fully focussd on being a success for Celtic.

He said: "It’s not really relevant in my world or in my space. I have done that my whole career, I have just focused on being as successful as I can for the club I represent. If I do that, everything else takes care of itself because things change pretty quickly in football.

“If I’m not successful here, it won’t be other options that open up for me, it’ll be this one that closes.”

He continued: “It is what it is. We’ve tried to sort of build the team as quickly as we possibly can. We did that last year knowing that we needed to bring success to the football club. We are in the Champions League now, so our role now is to be the best we can be in that and try to make an impact this year.

“Where that takes us, or how far that takes us, we’ll see at the end. I have always been mindful of making sure that every opportunity we get we try to grab. Whether it’s come too early or come at the right time, we do know that Champions League football is here for us and we want to take that opportunity.”
