Celtic 'at centre' of lucrative Asian TV deal as Scottish Premiership cash in on Japanese interest

The Scottish Premiership are cashing in on Ange Postecoglou’s Japanese contingent after striking a new TV deal in the Far East which will be “centred on Celtic games”. Japanese streaming company SPOTVNOW have announced they will deliver 38 top flight games over the season as part of the new agreement.

There has been huge interest in Celtic since Postecoglou left J-League outfit Yokohama F Marinos, where he had been for three years, and brought Kyogo, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi from the Far East to the east end of Glasgow. DAZN have been long term rights holders in Japan in recent years.

Hoops talisman Kyogo was the priority signing when Postecoglou first took over at Parkhead with the 27-year-old hitting the ground running in Scotland after his arrival from Vissel Kobe to help Celtic pick up the Premier Sports Cup where he played a starring role in the final with a double against Hibs at Hampden before winning the title.

Hatate, Maeda and Ideguchi all followed in the January window and a statement from SPOTVNOW said: "2022/23 season Scottish Premiership will be delivered. Japanese players such as Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, and Yosuke Ideguchi belong to Celtic. At SPOTVNOW , we plan to deliver 38 games in total, one game per section, centred on Celtic games!"
