Celtic and Rangers see Cho Gue-sung transfer auction take shock twist as £4.2m bid launched

The race for South Korea World Cup star Cho Gue-sung has led to another twist after Minnesota United launched a £4.2m bid his services – according to a report.

Multiple teams have been linked with the Jeonbuk forward with Celtic interested in a player who netted twice for his country in Qatar. Manchester United icon Park Ji-Sung travelled to London earlier this week to talk to interested parties on behalf of Jeonbuk with the Premiership champions launching a bid of around £3million. And it emerged on Monday that Rangers were admirers of the forward but no bid had been made.

However, both sides of the Glasgow divide could see Gue-Sung go elsewhere with Minnesota hell-bent on landing a player who has also been strongly linked with Mainz during this window. He admitted a move to Europe is likely on the cards but now North America may be calling with the MLS club keen to strike a deal.

Korean outlet Sports Chosun claim Minnesota boss Adrian Heath is desperate to secure the services of Gue-Sung imminently. The report also states both Celtic and Mainz remain very much in the mix.

The forward was advised on Monday by compatriot and South Korea icon Son Heung-min now is the time to make the next step in his career.
