Celtic and Rangers play by different handball rules as Beale and Postecoglou have serious questions to answer - Hotline

Celtic got out of jail at Ibrox with a late leveller, but Hoops fans reckon Rangers got let off the hook by VAR. Kyogo salvaged a point late on in a pulsating derby but there was controversy with a handball claim against Connor Goldson that video officials rejected.

John Caw, via email, said: “Goldson only used two hands to stop the ball, have they changed the rules? Matt O’Riley had his hand by his side against Ross County – penalty. Is it one rule for Celtic and one for others?" Henry Moffat Stirling, said: “Well done to Celtic for overcoming the latest attempt to influence this title in Rangers favour by VAR officials. If the club do not now take overwhelming video evidence to the very top they are doing our support a massive injustice, everyone can clearly see what is going on here, enough is enough Celtic!”

Celtic maintained their nine point Premiership lead but Joe Graham, Garrowhill, said: “A team still in progress as our new boss Mick Beale says, the 2-2 draw didn’t change the fact that Rangers are still nine points behind in the title race. With a little help needed from others it can change so dramatically and players returning from injury will be an advantage for Rangers. It is not over until the fat lady sings.”

Willie Mercer, Dumfries, said: “As a Rangers fan I am obviously disappointed to only pick up a point, but given the following facts I can take some pride in the result. Ange has had 18 months to implement his style of play while Beale has had six weeks. Beale is trying to shoehorn into his system players that he inherited and a squad reduced by injury. Watching the game, you wouldn’t think there were any disparities."

But Joe Sneddon, Lanark, said: “Beale blew it. He said when he got the job he was going to ‘take off the handbrake’ but the substitution with James Sands was more like a punctured tyre. It caused panic and when Celtic equalised Rangers had 10 players in the box.”

Hoops fan Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “A sloppy performance from Celtic and I thought they were lucky to come away with a point. Certainly we controlled the game for 25 minutes then went to sleep. Would love to know the thinking behind starting James Forrest as yet again as he was anonymous.”

Fraser Davison, Glasgow, said: “Despite a poor show from Celtic, we have got to be happy with a point. But a couple of things are seriously needing to be addressed by Ange. O’Riley can't pass a ball to save himself right now, with a severe lack of confidence. We will always ship goals as long as Carl Starfelt is playing, he is an accident waiting to happen. Massive improvement needed or it is going to be a nervous run in.”

It was a dramatic game but some were not impressed. John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “That was without doubt the worst Glasgow derby I've seen in over 50 years. The overall standard of play was shocking. Almost as shocking as seeing Alfredo Morelos display as much belly fat as I did at the same age. Only I wasn't a highly paid, angry and petulant football player in 1986. If only.”

A section of the away support spoiled the minute’s silence to commemorate the Ibrox Disaster, as well as the passing of Hoops hero Frank McGarvey, icon Pele and Pope Benedict. John Charles, Falkirk, said: “As a Celtic fan I would like to apologise for the shameful disruption of the minutes silence at Ibrox the Celtic board need to take some sort of action against these people. These people don’t represent the true spirit of Celtic. Peter Lawwell take action now."
