Former Celtic and Clyde striker Frank McGarvey has died at the age of 66 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
McGarvey - who also played for St Mirren, Queen of the South and, latterly in his career, Shotts Bon Accord - had revealed in October that he had been diagnosed with the disease. Later that month he was given a warm reception at Celtic Park when he appeared on the pitch at half-time of Celtic's 6-1 win over Hibs.
But this morning his son Scott announced that the former Scotland international had lost his fight.
He tweeted: "Our much loved Dad sadly passed away this morning with his family by his side.
"We are so thankful for all the support we have received over the past few months."
His former clubs have since paid tribute to man who enjoyed a trophy-laden career, winning five trophies with the Hoops, two at St Mirren and the Second Division title with the Bully Wee in 1992/93.
A statement from Celtic said: "Everyone at Celtic is extremely saddened to hear of the death of former striker, Frank McGarvey, who passed away earlier this morning at the age of 66.
"The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic are with Frank’s family at this extremely sad time. RIP Frank, YNWA."
Clyde's post read: "All at the club were saddened to learn of the passing of Frank McGarvey Frank joined Clyde in January 1992, scored 22 goals in 54 appearances and was top scorer in our 1992/93 Second Division championship winning team Our thoughts and condolences go to Frank's family and friends."
And Shotts Bon Accord posted: "Shotts Bon Accord is immensely saddened to announce the passing of former player Frank McGarvey.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Franks family and friends at this time. Frank played in the early nineties with the club under the watchful eye of manager John Clark."
