Celtic have reportedly "advanced" their pursuit of Hajduk Split's Niko Sigur.

The club are believed to have been monitoring the 22-year-old midfielder, who can also play right-back, for some time.

Sigur has made 116 senior appearances for Hajduk and has represented Canada on 22 occasions. He is reportedly keen on a move to Parkhead, where he would join Canadian team-mate Alistair Johnston. [Daily Record]

However, Celtic will have to wait to make a move as Sigur is expected to feature in Hajduk's crucial Conference League qualifier against Rakow Czestochowa on Thursday.

Sigur, who was born in Croatia, came through Hajduk’s academy and made his first-team debut in April 2023.

Predominantly a holding midfielder, he is comfortable playing at right-back and is known for his technical ability and composure.

Celtic have been linked with several midfielders this summer, but Sigur seems to be a priority for the club as they look for more options in the middle of the park.

Should he move, he would add depth to the squad, being able to play both midfield and right-back.
