Celtic ace sold me on Motherwell move as Hoops starlet describes transfer talks with Ange Postecoglou

Liam Shaw says he sought advice from Motherwell's record-fee holder David Turnbull before swapping Celtic for Fir Park.

Midfielder Shaw joined the Hoops last summer from boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday but has found minutes hard to come by at Parkhead.

He now links up with Graham Alexander's 'Well side in their hunt for a European spot in the Premiership.

Turnbull is a product of the club's academy and left in 2020 for Celtic. His fee stands as a club-record and he has since gone on to become an integral player in green and white.

Shaw says Turnbull gave a glowing report on life in ML1 and it was a big helping hand in him heading for Motherwell. A chat with Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou also settled his mind.

He said: "I spoke to David Turnbull about this move. He said it was a great club. He's been here and he's from around here so he said it was a great move for me.

"He's told me to try and get as much game time as I can while I am here. I've been getting to know all the lads and things like that in training. I am really enjoying it so far and I am getting used to how things work in training.

"I spoke to the gaffer there (at Celtic) and we both decided that I needed to get games under my belt to hopefully get me ready for next season.

"So this is more about getting the game time that I need and getting the experience in the Premiership. My hopes are to hopefully win as many games as I can while I am here and hopefully we get as many wins as possible.

"I have really enjoyed Scotland. I have been staying in Glasgow and that is a really nice city. I am really enjoying my time down here and the people are nice.

"Hopefully I can perform well on the pitch for the Motherwell fans, helping the club win as many games as we can."

It's been a big first half of the season for Shaw after leaving everything he knows behind in Sheffield. He had been at Wednesday for more than half of his life, but insists Scotland was too good to turn down.

He added: "I am a Sheffield lad. It's been a big move for me but I have been really enjoying it so far. Motherwell is a big club and I want to get in as many games as I can here.

"That will go on to help develop me and hopefully I can help the club while I'm here too. It was tough to leave Sheffield and move all the way up here. Sheffield is all I've known so it was hard.

"But I thought the move was the best decision for my career. I was at Sheffield Wednesday from the age of about eight or nine years of age.

"It's pretty much half my life. So it was pretty weird walking out the door there for the final time.

"But I want to progress my career and I think this will help develop my career better. Ange Postecoglou likes to play a really fast tempo and there's a lot of energy involved in it - which I enjoy."
