CELTIC ace Matt O’Riley has opened up on his ambition to join the senior Denmark squad at the World Cup in Qatar.
O’Riley regularly lines up for his country’s Under-21 side, but recently he has had the opportunity to impress manager Kasper Hjulmand and land a spot on the plane to Qatar.
The midfielder spoke of the buzz he felt at the opportunity just to train with the senior Denmark team.
And having tasted success at Celtic, the London-born Dane feels he is ready to be surrounded by top talents.
He told The Sun: “I enjoy playing with very good players. That’s always where I feel most comfortable.
“That’s not to say I don’t feel comfortable here but I feel in my zone playing with really good players, pushing myself.
“It wasn’t the whole first team — the likes of Christian Eriksen weren’t there — but there were still enough players to make the level good.
“I think Denmark were checking me out and that’s obviously a target in my head.
“I’ve said that openly before. As much as I’m enjoying the Under-21s, I feel I’m at a level to play for the first team.”
O’Riley also spoke about how this trip had given him the opportunity to see the Danish side of his family.
He added: “My mum and her mum are from Copenhagen and so were the rest of my family.
“Copenhagen’s really nice and somewhere I could see myself visiting a lot, especially as my Danish gets better and better.”
