Celtic 2 St Mirren 2 as Joe Hart poor, Curtis Main excellent - 3 things we learned

Celtic produced their worst performance of the season on Saturday afternoon as they salvaged a 2-2 draw with St Mirren on a dreary day at Parkhead.

Curtis Main's opener after a calamitous bit of Celtic defending and some lacklustre Joe Hart goalkeeping saw the Buddies take a shock lead, though Kyogo's leveller just after saw normal service resume.

However, some slack and sloppy Celtic play meant they failed to close the door on Stephen Robinson's side, and when Main nodded the away side back in front, nobody in the home end could have any complaints.

Only a late Callum McGregor consolation ruined the perfect day for the Paisley outfit, and in what is St Mirren's most successful campaign in years, Robinson will be happy with how the day unfolded - unlike his Australian counterpart. Glasgow Live looks at three key talking points from the shock loss.

Broken Hart?

The opening goal wasn’t entirely Joe Hart’s fault, let’s make that clear.

A mix-up at the back allowed Curtis Main to advance into the box, but whilst he still had work to do, the Englishman’s feeble shot somehow snuck under Hart and into the Celtic goal early on.

Hart will be annoyed, and rumours of a new goalkeeper will surely spring up once more - it has been said that a new man between the sticks will be at the top of Ange’s priority list.

He has been imperious in goal at times for the Hoops, but some basic errors like this will not do his case any good ahead of the transfer window.

The Main Man

Take nothing away from St Mirren; they battled valiantly, despite not having too much to play for at an away ground they have suffered at in years gone by.

Despite Celtic boasting the majority of possession and chances, they didn’t take them when called upon - and Curtis Main showed the opposite of that for the Buddies.

The striker capitalised on the poor defending for the opener to drill home, and a well taken header to punish some sleepy Celtic defending nodded the Paisley-based side back in front - and he almost grabbed a hat-trick towards the end of the game when he hit the post.

With his contract running out at the end of the season, St Mirren will need to do all they can to tie him up to a new deal ahead of the August restart.

On the beach

It’s a sign of a side that are resting themselves and playing out the remainder of the league campaign; maybe not so much physically, but mentally.

A goal such as the opener would simply not have happened had there been something on the line for the Celts to play for, like there was earlier in the season.

Of course, rotation does play a part with team chemistry completely lacking as a result, but there should be no excuses for drawing to a side that haven't won in five games.

There will be no doubts their form will pick up, but Ange Postecoglou won't be happy with the outing that his side produced today.

Food for thought for the Hoops gaffer with the Scottish Cup Final on the horizon.
