Just yesterday this paper lamented over how few celebrities were releasing fragrances these days, instead opting to become creative directors of fashion houses (looking at you, Pharrell and Kylie Jenner), founding wellness brands and skincare lines.
But in less than a day, Beyoncé has made us eat our sparkly silver cowboy hats. Queen Bey has officially announced her new fragrance, Cé Noir, which she has been wearing a prototype of on her Renaissance world tour.
The Eau De Parfum is Renaissance-themed, too. Cé Noir comes in a mirrored bottle with a half-domed cap, cascading edges and sits within a silver stand, because it's a little extra.
In an unboxing video on Instagram, Beyoncé says: "It's finally here after years of work. I wanted something to be monolithic, and I wanted something to have a little bit of intimacy," she says while spritzing the scent onto her chest. "I actually sprayed this during the show a few times - gotta keep it fresh."
As for what the perfume actually smells like: it has top notes of clementine and golden honey (perhaps a reference to her loyal beehive of fans, or the song Pure/Honey from Renaissance), heart notes of rose absolute and jasmine sambac, and base notes of Namibian myrrh and golden amber.
It is not the first time Beyoncé has forayed into fragrance. Her first release was the mega-bestseller Heat, in 2010, back when celebrity perfumes were all the rage. Heat was so popular that a number of variations were released - Heat Ultimate Elixir, Heat Rush, Midnight Heat, etc - putting Bey on the map as a top celebrity perfume seller.
In fact, data from perfume sample specialists Parfumery found Beyoncé to be the UK's second favourite celebrity producing perfumes, receiving an average of 4,495 searches per month. According to Parfumery, the most popular of Bey's perfumes thus far is Heat Kissed, which receives an average of 4,041 searches per month in the UK.
Unfortunately, the UK doesn't seem to have access to Cé Noir right now, though UK-based buyers are given the option to be notified when it becomes available in their area. Cé Noir is available exclusively through Beyoncé's website, beyonce.com, for residents of the United States and Canada, with shipping scheduled for November, just in time for the Christmas rush.
There's more. Bey looks all set to release a hair care line as well, having posted numerous teasers about how she "can’t wait" her fans to "to experience what [she's] been creating." But, with this new perfume getting all the limelight right now, we might have to wait a little bit longer for Queen Bey's hair care.
