CeeDee Lamb cannot see himself ‘wearing any other jersey’ after the Dallas Cowboys picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.
Lamb was selected 17th overall by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft. The 24-year-old impressed and showcased his potential as he played alongside Amari Cooper during his rookie season, when Dallas went 6-10.
However, Lamb stepped up his game in 2021 as he surpassed Cooper in receiving yards and receptions en route to his first Pro Bowl selection. He became the Cowboys’ undisputed leading receiver when the franchise traded Cooper to the Cleveland Browns, leading to Lamb being named as a Second-Team All-Pro.
As Lamb was a first round selection, a fifth-year option was included on his Cowboys deal and Dallas picked it up. As a result, the former Oklahoma wideout is under contract with the iconic NFC East franchise through the 2024 campaign - and he clearly hopes to stay longer via a long-term deal.
“I'm very excited,” Lamb said on Wednesday night. “Dallas is somewhere I've always wanted to be.
“I don't see myself really wearing any other jersey. I don't really want to get into too much detail on that, but I'm definitely excited for the future.”
Lamb - who will earn $17.99million in 2024 - impressed as the Cowboys’ star offensive weapon, tallying his first 100-plus catch season with 107 receptions as well as career-highs in both yards (1,359) and touchdowns (nine). The receiver is gearing up for his fourth season in the NFL and he will undoubtedly command top of the market money when negotiations between himself and the Cowboys begin.
The Cowboys will also attempt to negotiate a new deal for Lamb alongside talks with star cornerback Trevon Diggs and quarterback Dak Prescott in order to best manage their cap space. Diggs, who was a First-Team All-Pro in 2021, is entering a contract year after the Cowboys drafted him in 2020 alongside Lamb.
Diggs has 17 career interceptions, 49 passes defended and two touchdowns - and he also hopes to stay in Dallas long-term. When asked about his own contract situation, the 24-year-old said: “Hopefully something gets figured out.
“I love Dallas. I love being here. So, we'll see.”
