CCTV shows moment driver narrowly misses pedestrian and ploughs BMW into lamppost before fleeing scene

Footage has captured the horrifying moment a driver narrowly missed a pedestrian before ploughing a BMW into a street light. The smash was reported along Wilbraham Road, outside Whalley Range High School on Tuesday afternoon (February 14), with the driver fleeing the scene.

CCTV footage shared with the Manchester Evening News showed the moment the white BMW smashed into the lamppost, which luckily appeared to have acted as a barrier in between a pedestrian and the vehicle. The smash caused the bonnet to become completely crushed, before the street light then collapses and falls onto the top of the cars' roof, completely smashing the back windows.

The collision, which was reported at around 4pm on Tuesday, caused the busy road to be closed off by emergency services. Fire crews and police attended the scene, by which point the driver had already fled.
