A CCTV appeal has been launched after a victim was struck over the head with an imitation gun during a robbery in North Shields.
It was reported to Northumbria Police that at about 2.10am on March 28, the victim was approached by an unknown man on Silky’s Lane and asked for a cigarette. The unknown man then proceeded to brandish an object, believed to be an imitation firearm, and hit the victim twice on the head with it.
The man then stole a bottle of wine from the victim and made off. Officers were alerted to the incident several hours later and launched an investigation. Enquiries are ongoing and police have now identified a man who they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

The CCTV image which has been released by Force officers who are investigating the incident shows a man they would like to speak to. Although the man's face is partially obscured, he is seen wearing a dark coat with his hood up.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said "Enquiries are ongoing and police have now identified a man who they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.
"He was in the area at the time and could have information that may assist the investigation.
