CCTV images have been released of a man following a series of “deliberately” lit fires in south London that damaged a number of homes.
Metropolitan Police are wanting to speak to him after two fires ripped through a field near a Norbury school, in the borough of Merton, in June and July.
Police had also received reports of a man with a knife seen acting suspiciously in the area.
Emergency services received multiple calls to a blaze in a field off Woodmansterne Road at the junction with Lacrosse Way on June 26.
Plumes of smoke darkened the London skyline for miles around and 19 residents close to Woodmansterne School were told to leave their homes by firefighters.
The fire was extinguished, and caused some damage to a number of homes, Met Police said. Some houses were evacuated as a precaution.
The incident has been linked to a subsequent fire at the same location on July 19.
The fires are believed to have been caused deliberately, detectives said.
There were no reports of any serious injuries and have been no arrests so far.
