CCTV appeal to identify woman days after search teams called to Bridgewater Canal

Police have issued an urgent CCTV appeal to identify a woman, days after search teams were called out to the Bridgewater Canal in Salford. Officers want to identify the female following a report for the concern of her welfare on Woden Street Bridge in Salford on Sunday night (September 4).

The force has now released CCTV images of the red haired female, thought to be in her late teens, as they appeal for information in identifying her. Footage shows a female, believed to be her, leaving Pomona Strand and walking along Trafford Road towards Salford Quays.

The M.E.N reported how a huge emergency services presence were called to Woden Street, across the river from Pamona Wharf and St George's Island - just before midnight on Sunday evening. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed that no casualty was found following the search.

Following the search on Sunday, a spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 11.55pm on Sunday, September 4, two fire engines from Salford fire station along with the water incident unit and technical rescue unit attended Woden Street, Salford following reports that a person may be in the water.

“Firefighters have been working with Greater Manchester Police to carry out a systematic search of the canal, and no casualty was found. Crews have been in attendance for approximately one and a half hours.”
