CCTV appeal to identify football fans after fight breaks out at Rochdale vs Newport County

Police have issued a CCTV appeal after fighting broke out between rival football fans at a Rochdale match against Newport County. Officers would like to speak to these three men following the violence at the game at Spotland on January 7.

Police say around 10-15 fans from both clubs were involved in the fight close to the away turnstiles on Willbutts Lane. A number of arrests have already been made and club bans issued.

PC Rob Smith, GMP's liaison officer at Rochdale FC, said: "A number of people were fighting, with club stewards having to break up the fight before police arrived and dispersed those remaining. A number of arrests have been made already and those identified have been issued with club bans until the investigation is over following joint working between Rochdale Football Club and Greater Manchester Police.

"We now want to create a safe environment for people to come and support their local team, so any information provided will be treated in confidence as we try to identify those involved."

The League Two fixture ended in a 1-1 draw.

Anyone with information should contact police on 07747 648700 . Information can also be reported online, or calling 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
