NFL free agency is less than a month away and experts are beginning to match up players with potential teams.
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin re-imagined the free agent market in a draft format based on each team’s 2024 projected salary cap space.
The New York Giants, who will have an estimated $32 million in cap space come the league new year (March 13) were assigned the 17th overall pick in this exercise.
With that pick, Benjamin believes the Giants would sign Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis.
The Giants can’t afford to let any of their QBs take snaps behind their current O-line again. But they also desperately need more juice out wide. Davis is mercurial but explosive, offering ridiculous speed on the perimeter.
The Giants are surely familiar with what Davis can bring to an offense since many of their shot callers (general manager Joe Schoen, head coach Brian Daboll, and passing game coordinator Shea Tierney) came from Buffalo as well.
But fantasy football enthusiasts will debate you all day long about Davis’ actual value. The guy has a propensity to disappear for long stretches and then puts up eye-popping numbers when least expected.
The Giants can take a flyer on Davis if the price is right, but expectations should remain tempered. Davis is truly a boom-or-bust option.
