The Baltimore Ravens put together an intriguing six-player draft class on 2023 draft weekend. While it appears that first-round wide receiver Zay Flowers will have the biggest rookie impact during the 2023 season, other draft picks could make a name for themselves as well.
When listing out one sleeper rookie from each AFC team that could shine in 2023, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports chose former Clemson star Trenton Simpson for Baltimore. When explaining why, he mentioned that the 86th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft is an “in-space defensive weapon”, and that the Ravens don’t need him to play a traditional inside linebacker role right away.
“Simpson is an in-space defensive weapon out of Clemson. He’s not ready to handle old-school linebacker duties from the jump in the pros, but with Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith, the Ravens don’t need Simpson to play a traditional role. Simpson and his elite speed are fully accentuated when he’s a movable blitzer and attacker of outside runs. The coverage could take time to round into acceptable form. Simpson will be useful before that occurs because of his explosiveness.”
