VISAKHAPATNAM: CBI on Thursday registered a case against assistant engineer (QS & C) of military engineering services, Komaragiri Srirama Someswara Rao, for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The accused is presently working in chief engineer office in Navy in the port city. CBI sleuths have found that 89 lakh worth movable and immovable assets were acquired by the assistant engineer.
Officials, on reliable information, conducted searches and found he amassed the wealth between January 2011 and March 2019. As per the information, Someswara Rao and his family members were in possession of movable and immovable assets to the tune of 5.13 lakh in the year 2011.
But, later, he acquired 82.48 lakh worth movable and immovable properties in his name and in the name of his family members. Sources said the engineer amassed wealth by allegedly indulging in wrong practices during the purchases of various equipment and also sanctioning of bills. CBI registered a case against Someswara Rao and his wife K Padmavathi under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section109 of IPC.
