South Dublin councillors have approved the Part 8 report for the much anticipated improvement works for Castletymon Shopping Centre.
At Monday's council meeting, councillors voiced their support for the scheme, which will involve the upgrading and modernisation of the centre and its environs in Tallaght.
This will involve improvements within the shopping centre area and along the roadway from the new Castletymon Library to the Tymon Park / National Basketball Arena entrance.
Public consultation for the scheme was held between 9 November 2021 and 4 January 2022.
Speaking during the meeting, Director for Planning and Transport at South Dublin County Council Mick Mulhern said that they are hoping to appoint contractors for the works in September or October.
Mayor Peter Kavanagh praised the scheme and its detailed planning, saying that councillors felt very involved during the "first class consultation" for the scheme.
Meanwhile Cllr Cathal King said: "It looks fantastic, it will be a very successful programme."
The scheme also delivers a section of the Cycle South Dublin “Now” route from Greenhills Road to Tallaght Village.
This section of cycle route proposed is being identified as a phase 1 section of cycle infrastructure for that scheme with phase two to be progressed later this year.
It will also connect the shared surfaces in Tymon Park to those in Bancroft Park.
South Dublin County Council will now progress the Castletymon District Enhancement Scheme to the detailed design stage.
