Castlemilk family 'heartbroken' as Barry McCullagh's body found in river after 5-month search

The family of a missing man from Castlemilk has been left 'heartbroken' after his body was discovered.

Barry McCullagh had been reported missing from the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley on October 5 with extensive searches undertaken to find him in the months following.

Police sadly confirmed the 40-year-old's body was recovered from Old Patrick Water in Elderslie, on Sunday evening, reports the Daily Record.

Barry's sister Stacey described the family as 'heartbroken' following the devastating news. Taking to social media, she said: "Hi everyone just want to say thanks to everyone that shared my posts about my brother Barry that was missing for 174 days sadly wee got bad news on the 27th of march that police had found him dead, we are all heartbroken."

Tributes have been for the Castlemilk man who has been described as the 'best guy'.

Mac White said: "RIP Barry Mccullagh. You will be surely missed by all the family. Thank you to all who aided in the search for him and who shared posts."

Stephanie Thomson added: "Heartbreaking, you never see anything like this in our village but to be this is just so heartbreaking, that poor family have been through torment for months and our only hope now is they have closure and can lay their boy to rest, fly high Barry."

And Sharon McCullagh White said: "So sad. He is loved and his will be missed by all his family and friends. Please keep the family in your hearts, thoughts and prayers. Thank you all."

While Victoria Lee wrote: "Absolutely devastated love you so much Barry Mccullagh best guy I know. Rest In Peace brother."

"Rest easy bro will remember the good times always close to my heart ma man," John Dorfman said.

The dad-of-two had been admitted to the RAH the night before he went missing on Tuesday, October 4. He had been experiencing seizures for 18 months and had taken a seizure on the previous Saturday.

When he took unwell and began hallucinating, his worried family phoned an ambulance.

They thought Barry would be taken from his Castlemilk home to a Glasgow hospital but he was taken to the RAH where he was sedated. Barry went missing that evening before further testing could be carried out on the Wednesday.
