Castle Douglas turned Jurassic to celebrate Civic Week with a dinosaur theme.
The rain arrived on Saturday but that didn’t stop people descending on Market Hill to enjoy the fun.
Organisers Margaret Donohoe and Gill Gallacher had laid on live music, food stalls and bars to greet the Civic Week audience, with the plans being rejigged for the weather. The music kicked off with a young local band and then continued with Mary Barclay and Doug Carrol and then Gemma Florence. Headline act Dionne Hickey had to be cancelled due to the rain.
The weather didn’t stop the animatronic dinosaurs taking to the park to
entertain all. At the town hall children enjoyed various activities with dinosaur story telling by May, Claire and Kate who were all fully dressed in their Jurassic costumes.
There were arts and crafts with Karen Miller, Sylvia McMinn, Angela Glover, Amy and Louise, Magic Monty tying balloon animals as well as face-painters, glitter make-up, hair braiding and pottery making.
The events have continued during the week with film screenings, treasure hunts and fun runs.
This morning there is a tennis and racketball taster at Stewartry Community Sports Club from 10am until midday, as well as a quiz at the parish church at 7pm and the junior fun run in Lochside Park at 6.30pm.
Tomorrow the animals take centre stage with a pet show on Market Hill at 6pm and a dog display at 6.30pm.
The organisers are grateful to local businesses and families who provided more than £4,000 in sponsorship.
