Real Madrid star Casemiro is nearing a transfer to Manchester United in a big-money move that is set to cost the Red Devils at least £60million.
The Brazilian is expected to sign a four-year contract that boasts the option to extend the deal for a further fifth year should both parties agree to it. United have endured a miserable start to the season under new boss Erik ten Hag with two defeats from their opening two games.
The second of which came in the form of a 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Brentford in a game that saw United's midfield come under serious scrutiny. Casemiro is widely viewed as a massive upgrade on the current options in the middle of the park Ten Hag has at his disposal.
While the excitement over his arrival builds among the United faithful, the question still stands - what shirt number will Casemiro wear when his move is officially announced?
United were reportedly keen to get the deal over the line in time for the Brazil international to feature in some capacity against Liverpool on Monday night, but that now looks incredibly unlikely. Instead, he could line up against Southampton the following weekend.
Mirror Football has taken a look at all of the vacant shirt numbers at Old Trafford Casemiro could opt for once he seals his switch to United.
HAVE YOUR SAY! Which shirt number should Casemiro wear once his move to Man Utd is confirmed? Comment below
13 - While it may be unlucky for some, 13 is currently the lowest available squad number Casemiro could choose to wear. It was last worn by barely-used goalkeeper Lee Grant and would undoubtedly see more action on the back of Casemiro.
The most notable previous occupant of the shirt is certainly Old Trafford cult hero and South Korean international Ji-sung Park.
15 - Rather annoyingly for Casemiro, the number 14 - his current shirt number at Los Blancos, is unavailable at United - but the numbers on either side of it are currently vacant.
Andreas Pereira's recent switch to Fulham means that 15 is now available, but it hardly brought Casemiro's fellow countryman much like and as a result he may want to avoid it.
18 - Casemiro would be inheriting a shirt that has recently been worn by one of the Old Trafford faithful's favourite players in Bruno Fernandes.
However, the Portugal midfielder took Juan Mata's vacant number eight instead at the start of this season - thus leaving it free for Casemiro should he wish to take it.
The 30-year-old has previously donned the number 18 shirt elsewhere in his career, including some games for Brazil.
21 - Most fans expected summer-signing Christian Eriksen to take the 21 shirt given it is the same number he wore during his six-month stint at Brentford last season, but the former Spurs man instead opted for 14 - the shirt number Casemiro would have been most keen to take considering he wears it at the Santiago Bernabeu.
21 was most recently worn by Edinson Cavani, who took on the number after voluntarily surrendering the seven shirt so that Casemiro's former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo could take it.
Frenkie de Jong currently dons the number at Barcelona and some speculate United plan on keeping it free for the Dutchman just in case they are able to tempt him into joining before the window closes.
31 - Not the kind of number you'd expect your £60m midfielder to take upon his arrival, but Casemiro could be tempted due to its recent history with other top-tier midfielders at the club.
Last worn by veteran midfielder Nemanja Matic at Old Trafford, Casemiro would be a more than worthy successor to the Serbian international.
