Casemiro admitted that he had wanted to play for Manchester United against Liverpool this evening as he bid an emotional farewell to Real Madrid.
The 30-year-old will sign a five-year contract for Erik Ten Hag’s side, with Spanish giants Madrid receiving £60million. Casemiro becomes the club’s fourth major signing of the summer, and will join former teammates Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford.
But despite Manchester United’s insistence on getting the deal over the line as quickly as possible - thanks in part to their woeful start to the new season - the Brazilian is yet to be registered and is therefore not eligible to face the Reds tonight. And during his emotional farewell in Madrid, the midfield destroyer admitted he wanted to get straight into the action and face Jurgen Klopp’s side.
