A garda investigation is underway following a suspected arson attack at a garage in Longford town overnight. Up to half a dozen cars were damaged in the blaze at Inter Cars auto repairs, close to the midland town's Strokestown Road just after 1:30am.
Fire units from Longford, as well as gardaí, raced to the scene and extinguished the fire a short time later. A garda spokesperson confirmed the incident, adding an investigation was now underway.
"Gardaí and Emergency Services attended the scene of an incident of criminal damage by fire that occurred at a business property in Longford Town at 1.45am today, the 15th June 2023," said a garda spokesperson.

"No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made." Garda forensic officers were at the scene of the incident this morning to carry out a full forensic examination.
It's understood detectives are trawling through CCTV footage taken from close to the scene in a bid to identify those responsible. The incident itself has been condemned by Longford Municipal District Cathaoirleach Cllr Gerry Hagan.
"I am utterly appalled by this," said Cllr Hagan. "I would be urging anyone who may have information to come forward so that these perpetrators can be brought to justice."
