Three people have had their vehicles seized after a police operation targeted burnout drivers and dangerous driving in Canberra's rural areas.
The operation spanned the western fringe of the ACT, including Uriarra Road, Cotter Road, Brindabella Road and Paddys River Road on Friday and Saturday nights (September 18 and 19).
As a result, police issued 76 traffic fines, 45 defect notices and seized three vehicles for improper use after they were allegedly caught doing burnouts.
ACT Policing's road policing operations team, intelligence unit, rural patrol and officers from Tuggeranong police station were involved in the crackdown which identified two drink-drivers and five drug-drivers.
Police officers also arrested a wanted man and charged another man, who was on bail at the time, with disqualified driving and carrying an offensive weapon.
Officer in charge of road policing, Detective Inspector Mark Steel, said such driving behaviour was totally unacceptable to the ACT's rural residents.
"You've only got to drive along some of our rural roads to see the aftermath of some of this activity," he said.
"Large gatherings of people in rural areas late at night presents a significant risk to community safety, and we have a zero tolerance for those who engage in dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour."
Detective Inspector Steel police would continue proactive patrols and enforcement activities to target "hooning behaviour" and remove dangerous drivers and their vehicles from ACT roads.
