UAE residents travelling overseas should ensure they carry their original Emirates ID before returning, as airlines at international airports may refuse boarding if they cannot produce the physical card. Travel experts say digital copies, screenshots or photocopies may not be accepted, making the Emirates ID one of the most important documents for residents flying back to the country.
The requirement applies to UAE residents returning from any country, including India and Canada, after the Emirates ID replaced the residence visa sticker in passports as the primary proof of residency. Airline staff and immigration authorities may ask passengers to present the original card before allowing them to board flights to the UAE.
