Jamie Carragher has named Bruno Fernandes as another player Manchester United should consider selling on top of Marcus Rashford.
United look set to have an overhaul under new manager Ruben Amorim after a poor start to the season.
The future of Rashford has already come under question with reports claiming United would consider selling him during the January transfer window.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher is the latest figure to weigh in on Manchester United’s squad in his column with The Telegraph.
He backed recent suggestions that United should sell Rashford but added Fernandes to the list of players who should be offloaded.
Manchester United Should ‘Consider Selling’ Bruno Fernandes
Writing in his column, Carragher said: “A dilemma also looms with Bruno Fernandes. “Unlike [Marcus] Rashford, Fernandes has been one of United’s best players during a tough period and would have shone with more quality around him during his Old Trafford career.
“But he is 30 now and there may be value in offloading him to raise funds. I’ve always felt Fernandes is a great talent rather than a great player. He creates a lot of chances but can be very indisciplined with and without the ball.
‘That makes it a lot harder for United to defend as a compact unit as he chases the ball all over the pitch. It looks like great commitment to the supporters but the manager will be tearing his hair out.’
Fernandes joined United from Sporting in January 2020. He has often been viewed as one of the few shining lights during a tough time for the club.
He made an explosive start with 12 goals and eight assists in his first half-season at Old Trafford. While his numbers have since slowed, he has scored 84 goals in 225 matches for the club.
This season he has five goals and 10 assists in 23 appearances. However, his form has been questioned and he received red cards in consecutive games earlier this season – though one was rescinded.
Manchester United Name Price For Marcus Rashford
Though Bruno Fernandes’ Manchester United future seems to be more secure, there appears a chance they could sell Marcus Rashford.
Freeing up Rashford’s reported £325,00-a-week wage would benefit United’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) situation.
Reports suggested Manchester United have named their price and would consider offers of £40m for Rashford in January.
It’s said that his valuation would have been as much as £100m after his 30-goal season in 2022-23.
United though are believed to accept that it is unlikely that they will have any bidders for Rashford in January.
