Carolina Herrera celebrated its 45th anniversary with a Spring 2027 ready-to-wear collection that brought the house back to New York, where Carolina Herrera first presented her designs in 1981. Creative director Wes Gordon staged the anniversary show at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater on September 14, using the city and the house's history as central references for the collection.
The official Carolina Herrera site describes the collection as a celebration of the qualities that have shaped the house since its beginnings, with Gordon reinterpreting them for a new generation. W Magazine reported that Gordon approached the anniversary as a tribute to the house, its founder and New York.
A Park Avenue-Inspired Setting
The setting established the New York connection before the first look appeared. Along the promenade of the David H. Koch Theater, Gordon recreated a version of Park Avenue, including a traffic median filled with yellow tulips.
There were precisely 28,798 tulips in the final installation. Vogue and W Magazine reported that the original number was 28,800, but Gordon's children, Henry and Georgia, each took one during rehearsals.
The show's guest list also included several notable names from fashion and New York culture. W Magazine reported that Fran Lebowitz and Pamela Anderson attended alongside designers Tory Burch, Gabriela Hearst and Conner Ives.
Carolina Herrera herself was seated in the front row wearing a white shirt from her first collection with a ball skirt. The same white-shirt idea became one of the recurring elements of Gordon's Spring 2027 runway, appearing in several updated forms.
Herrera Signatures Return for Spring 2027
The collection revisited several recognizable Carolina Herrera codes, including Herrera Red, ruffles and polka dots. W Magazine reported that the polka dots appeared in classic black and white as well as in black paired with a blue shade Gordon called Cielo, meaning "sky" in Spanish.
The white shirt was another recurring reference. According to W Magazine, versions included a shorter shirt paired with black cigarette pants, a collared halter dress and a floor-length shirtdress styled with a tonal cummerbund and train.
Vogue also noted the collection's references to New York dressing, including a look featuring a silk twill headscarf, oversized sunglasses and a collarless trench. Gordon described the model wearing the outfit as though she were hailing a cab on Park Avenue.
The collection included another direct connection to Herrera's history through Andy Warhol. W Magazine reported that Warhol's portrait of Herrera was reinterpreted as an embroidered minidress. The portrait came from Warhol's 1978–79 series of friends and celebrities.
A 45th Anniversary Collection Rooted in New York
The Spring 2027 collection marked a return to the city that has been central to the Carolina Herrera brand since its founding. The official house described the show as a return to New York 45 years after Herrera first presented her collection there, while Gordon used the anniversary to revisit established house signatures through new runway looks.
For the milestone collection, the runway brought together familiar Herrera elements, including the white shirt, ruffles, polka dots and Herrera Red, alongside distinctly New York references. Rather than presenting the anniversary solely as a retrospective, Gordon used the house's established vocabulary as the foundation for the Spring 2027 collection.
