Carol Vorderman shares update on 'van life' adventure as transformation begins

With Storm Eunice having crashed across England a couple of days ago, some people may find the idea of living in a van the most daunting idea they could think of. But not Carol Vorderman, whose van transformation is continuing apace.

The television presenter sold her gorgeous £2.6m mansion near Bristol back in December to shift to a completely different way of life, and she has shared a social media update on the fit-out what she has named the 'Vordersvan'.

The video shows what appears to be an early step in the work to change a grey 4x4 van from manufacturer MAN into a home. A first step towards the transformation is already complete with a key element of her country-camping living plan having been successfully installed.

Carol has posted two updates since Friday (February 18) - the first was a photo of herself posing in front of the van at Van Life Builds, which is a company based just north of Bristol that specialises in customising vans for people to live in.

The 61-year-old has been working with the company to design her very own custom van, and the build is certainly underway. From the photo she posted, it seems that not much has started on the interior yet - the van appears to have been stripped right down for the experts to then construct the living space to Carol's exact specifications.

She captioned the image: "Taping out our first thought layout with @vanlifebuilds... Omg I think we've got it right for what I need...well more or less... Much more to follow but basically. The wheels and raised chassis...thank you @volkstrek.. And now the build begins."

Not only that, but Carol also posted a video update showing a time-lapse of the canopy being fit to the side of the van. Carol said that it will be used in the evenings "out in the good air with good mates and good vibes chatting rubbish and having a laugh by a campfire staring at nature's imperfect perfection".

Carol appears to have opted for a manual canopy that one has to unwind using a stick, and then it has two support poles to create a lovely covered space. She said that the side pieces are on the way "for when it's a bit breezy".

She also gave fans a quick peek inside the van, which is still completely bare as it awaits her custom design to be brought to life by the Van Life Build experts. Last year she told her followers she wanted it to have features including a wood burner, sky light and fold-down benches that can be used to create seating on the roof.

Having sold her mansion at the end of last year, Carol said that she is hoping to be in the van by the end of March, "ready for proper adventuring". Van Life Builds is not currently taking on new orders, leaving them space to focus on the Vordersvan and their other projects.

Carol has not announced a planned itinerary or bucket list of places she plans to visit, but with her long career in showbiz, she is bound to have some celebrity mates living it up at the campsite in summer. She is also a huge fan of Wales, posting a video on Instagram this morning that fans guessed to be from Pembrokeshire.

The video showed waves crashing against rocks with a grey sky in the background, and was captioned: "Having some "wild sea" for breakfast this morning.... Just can't beat it... Wild air, wild sea, wild smiles. Happy days." It is understood that the former Countdown star divides her time between homes she owns in Clifton and Pembrokeshire, the latter of which boasts sea views.
