Carol Vorderman has revealed she tucks into "smelly" food when she commutes to London from Bristol. The I'm A Celebrity star appeared on This Morning on Friday (May 19) to discuss the latest headlines with Friday presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, and fellow guest Gyles Brandreth.
According to Alison, packed lunches are making a comeback in the UK due to the rising cost of living. More workers up and down the country are opting to make their own lunch and bring it into work in containers, rather than spending money on lunches from coffee and sandwich shops.
"I absolutely adore a packed lunch," Alison declared. "They're lovely, they save money... first of all, do you like a packed lunch?"
"I do," Clifton resident Carol replied. "I always used to have a packed lunch, I still do have a packed lunch.
"I like a packed lunch because I like certain things, you know. I'm travelling a lot because I work in London but live in Bristol... I don’t like the sort of stuff you buy, whether it’s on the train or whatever so I often take a packed lunch."
Gyles then chipped in, saying the cause for the rise in packed lunches - inflation - was "very distressing", although he do thinks the concept of a packed lunch is "fun". But not everyone in the studio was having a good time when the former Tory MP whipped out his lunch for the day: smoked mackerel and boiled eggs, which he planned on eating on the way home.
"No, don't open that!" Alison told Gyles, as he opened the lid of his lunchbox and implored his peers to take a sniff.
"Mackerel!" Carol swooned. "My favourite."
Alison then revealed that, out of the 20 foods that have been revealed as a no-no on public transport, smoked mackerel comes out on top. Other lunch components mentioned included bananas, Monster Munch, Pot Noodles, samosas, and boiled eggs.
"I don't think you should eat in public," Gyles chipped in. "Eating is for the dining room." Carol replied: "Yeah, but you're on a train and a lot of people travel a lot."
Agreeing that eating on public transport is acceptable, Alison added: "Smelly food like eggs, I think, are awful. "No, I buy the eggs in pots," Carol revealed. "Two boiled eggs and a bit of spinach, yeah."
Boiled eggs are nothing compared to what Carol has been eating on the telly recently, having starred in the first ever series of I'm A Celebrity... South Africa. Although she didn't take part in any eating challenges, Carol was eliminated from the show alongside former royal butler Paul Burrell after taking part in the "Vile Vineyards" challenge, which saw the pair squeeze juice out of fish eyes using only their mouths.
