Carol Vorderman broke town in tears after facing her ultimate fear on the latest episode of I'm a Celebrity South Africa.
The former Countdown host took part in the latest trial alongside Olympian Fatima Whitbread on Tuesday night where she was tasked with swimming through a water tunnel collecting stars. However, Carol, 63, wasn't alone in the tanks as she had to swim amongst frogs, crocodiles, catfish and snakes in the final compartment.
After arriving at the challenge, Ant told them: "This is Tanks of Torment. Carol, it’s your job to swim through the four sections of the tank, collecting stars as you go," as Dec shared: "You will only be able to move through the sections once Fatima has raised the doors that separate them."
Carol and Fatima tried their very best during the challenge, before the TV personality broke down in tears and opened up about her fear of drowning. She said she was usually very strong but that was her biggest fear and she struggled to cope with the task as a whole.
Carol refused to do the last chamber after noticing snakes were in the breathing hole, prompted her to panic about her phobia. "I have this real fear of drowning," Carol said to Fatima during the trial. "It is my ultimate fear."
"You won't if you put your head up," Fatima reassured. "You have got enough room to put your head up."
"I am not going to do it," Carol continued as Ant asked: "You're not going to do it, Carol?"
She hesitated before Dec echoed: "Five seconds left. You done?" Defeated, Carol said: "I am done."
When speaking to the hosts afterwards, Carol got tearful as she said: "I am sorry, I might even cry, my one fear is drowning, I could see a snake in the breathing hole, I went through and I couldn't get a breath."
"I am sorry," Carol repeated as she got choked up.
When speaking with Fatima after the challenge, Carol got visibly upset again when talking about it. "It's the only time I have been like this about a phobia my whole life," Carol sobbed.
She later added: "I don't want to tell anybody in camp that I've been sobbing really because then you have to go on about it."
The duo bounced in to camp to tell their fellow campmates about their trial, although, Myleene Klass and Jordan Banjo noticed Carol wasn't her usual happy self.
