Carnival Cruise Line makes a change passengers love

Many people use social media to share that they have been promoted. Usually, however, they're sharing the news with friends, family and maybe work associates.

When you have been in public-facing positions for Carnival Cruise Line, however, the experience is very different. Lee Mason, a popular cruise director currently serving on Carnival Venezia, has built up quite a following over the years.

That made it a big deal when he shared the news of his latest promotion to his 65,000 Facebook followers.

"It’s official! I can finally announce that I will be joining the team of Fleet Cruise Directors. Of course, I will be making a video to talk about it. But I wanted to share the news with you all directly," he wrote on his Facebook page.

While Carnival has multiple fleet cruise directors, Mason is essentially succeeding Chris “The Flying Scotsman” Williams, who retired in May.

“As of Saturday, the tenth of August 2024, I will be retiring from Carnival Cruise Line,” he posted on his Facebook page. “It is with a heavy heart that I do this.”

Williams stepped away from the cruise industry for family reasons. He has a five-year-old daughter.

"Sometimes you have to make a choice and make a decision that is going to change everything,” he said.

Carnival's move saluted by cruisers

A cruise director is the face and host of your cruise, making announcements and coordinating the staff who run events on board.

Mason's post garnered more than 1,700 comments.

"Yes...so well deserved! (see what happens when you spend a little time in Canada, eh?!). I want to be on the inaugural on CCL LeeMason, on the yet-announced ULTRAXL class," wrote Keith Retson Spaulding.

Brad Dowling was happy for Mason but sad to see him go.

"We’re going to super miss you as a Cruise Director, but obviously you’re as deserving as anyone could possibly be for this promotion," he posted.

Many people noted that Mason helps make cruises more fun.

"Congratulations Fam! Well deserved! Keep spreading Joy and Happiness! See you on the ocean someday," wrote Anthony Carmona.

Mason's peers saluted his promotion as well.

"Congratulations mate! Makes me so happy after all our conversations and so glad to see it happening! You will be amazing and so deserved," posted Marty Cruise Director.

It is not clear when Mason will be starting his new position as he continues to be listed as the cruise director for Carnival Venezia.
