Carlos Rodón To Start AL Championship Series Opener For Yankees

New York Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodón (55) reacts after striking out the batter during the first inning of Game 2 of the American League baseball playoff series against the Kansas City Royals, Monday,

Left-hander Carlos Rodón has been named as the starting pitcher for the New York Yankees in the AL Championship Series opener against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night. Rodón had a remarkable turnaround this season, finishing with a 16-9 record and a 3.96 ERA over 172 innings in 32 starts. This performance marked a significant improvement from his 2023 season, where he struggled with a 3-8 record and a career-worst 6.85 ERA due to injuries.

Despite a challenging start to the season, Rodón showcased his talent in the AL Division Series against Kansas City. While he took the loss in Game 2, he pitched shutout ball until giving up a leadoff homer to Salvador Perez, leading to a four-run fourth inning by the Royals.

The Yankees have announced their pitching rotation for the upcoming games. Ace Gerrit Cole will start Game 2 on Tuesday, followed by Clarke Schmidt in Game 3 at Cleveland on Thursday, and rookie Luis Gil in Game 4.

Manager Aaron Boone mentioned the possibility of adding first baseman Anthony Rizzo to the roster. Rizzo has been sidelined since fracturing a pair of fingers in late September after being hit by a pitch.

As the Yankees gear up for the AL Championship Series, the team is looking to build on their recent successes and secure a spot in the World Series. Fans are eagerly anticipating the matchups against the Guardians and are hopeful for a strong showing from the Yankees' pitching staff and lineup.
