LAS VEGAS – Carlos Prates is elated that Dana White compared him to his idol.
Prates (17-6) notched his seventh win in a row when he stopped Mitch Ramirez (7-1) by Round 2 TKO Tuesday at Dana White’s Contender Series 60.
White had plenty of praise for Prates’ style, and said he reminded him of a young, prime Anderson Silva. The UFC president said he plans on throwing Prates right in the mix, and the Brazilian finisher loves the compliment.
“I was really happy when I heard that because I have three in MMA and Anderson is of course one of them,” Prates told reporters during the DWCS 60 post-fight press conference. “Actually, before the fight I was looking at fights of Anderson Silva, Adesanya, because I’m a striker I like to watch them and what they like to do. I like to get some energy.”
Prates scored one of the best finishes of the season when he stunned Ramirez for the walk-off finish. He hopes his win sent a message to the entire welterweight division.
“The new welterweight star is right here, mark my words,” Prates said. “I told Dana the same thing. I respect everyone, but the new era is going to start.”
