Carlos Alcaraz makes Jannik Sinner admission after injury-hit 2026 season

  • Carlos Alcaraz has admitted to the BBC that he “misses” competing against his main rival Jannik Sinner, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury sustained at Wimbledon.
  • Both players have experienced injury-disrupted 2026 seasons after splitting all four grand slam titles in 2025, having contested just one match against each other this year at the Monte Carlo final.
  • Alcaraz is returning to action for Team Europe at the exhibition Laver Cup in London, adopting a more conservative playing schedule to manage his physical health following a five-month wrist injury layoff.
  • The Spaniard described reaching the US Open quarter-finals as a gift despite a five-set defeat by Ben Shelton, which set a record as the latest-ever finish in US Open history at 3.33am local time.
  • Following the late-night finish, Alcaraz joined calls from other players for US Open organisers to overhaul match scheduling, proposing a maximum finish time of 11pm.
