- Alcaraz's return coincides with the US Open announcing a record total prize fund of $108m (approximately £80m), representing a 20 per cent increase, with the men's and women's singles champions each receiving $5.5m (approximately £4m).
- Tournament directors hope the historic payout will resolve ongoing disputes with top players who have raised concerns over prize money and operational matters under the banner Project RedEye.
