Carlo Ancelotti explains why he turned down Man Utd first time as he's back in the frame

Carlo Ancelotti is again being considered for the Manchester United job having previously said no to the role.

The Old Trafford board are considering their options with Ralf Rangnick's interim spell due to end this summer.

A permanent move for PSG's Mauricio Pochettino or Erik ten Hag at Ajax has been touted.

But now short-term solutions are being eyed with Ancelotti among those in the frame to take over, according to ESPN.

The Italian has a close relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson and has proved his credentials at the top of the game with various elite teams over the years.

Ferguson is an admirer of Pochettino but has recommended that the club consider Ancelotti in the short-term if the Argentine is unavailable.

It would be the second time the Italian has been considered for the job on the red half of Manchester.

Back in 2013 United made moves to recruit Ancelotti - a three time Champions League winner - when they found out Ferguson would be retiring.

Ancelotti was then at PSG but was in discussions with Real Madrid and felt that it was only right he followed through on their interest.

“You want to know from me [about coaching at Man Utd]?!“ said the 62-year-old in the past.

"I can say that I still keep a fantastic relationship with Sir Alex, and we met when he decided to stop (retire).

"But I was close to Real Madrid, and so I appreciate the fact that at that time he talked to me. And that’s it, no other opportunity [to manage United]."

United ended up appointing David Moyes, who lasted less than a season.

Ancelotti meanwhile would deliver the Champions League, Madrid's much craved 'La Decima', whilst also winning the Copa del Rey in the same year.

He is now back at the Bernabeu for a second spell and has Los Blancos well placed to win LaLiga.

United are seeking their fifth permanent boss since Ferguson's retirement but are keeping their options open.

Ancelotti also has proven Premier League pedigree having led Chelsea to the double back in 2010.

It was United and Ferguson whom they beat it the title race with the Italian underlining his feelings for the Manchester outfit.

He said: "I have a lot of respect for this team, for this club, it is a historical club in the world of football like Milan, like Real Madrid, a lot of respect."

Ancelotti signed a three-year deal in the Spanish capital upon leaving Everton in the summer.
