Carl Starfelt steps up Celtic injury comeback as he's back training on the beach despite grim diagnosis

Determined Carl Starfelt is fighting to be fit as he's stepped up his comeback bid while on holiday.

And the Celtic star is back with a ball at his feet - and on his head - despite Sweden boss Janne Andersson's grim diagnosis.

The centre-back became an important player for Ange Postecoglou last season despite a shaky start and ended the season as an automatic starter - forming a formidable partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers at the back.

He's also a key man for his country so there was plenty of concern in Sweden and at Celtic when he was stretchered off against Slovenia.

Boss Andersson admitted the injury looked serious sparking fears he could miss a significant chunk of the Hoops' pre-season.

But he'll be back in the nick of time if he has anything to do with it as the Swede puts his downtime to good use.

He posted a clip on Instagram as a trainer put him through his paces on the beach.

The 10-second clip shows him working on his reflexes in a light session on the sand.

Speaking in the wake of his injury, Andersson admitted it was "problematic" to lose the 27-year-old.

He said: "It is a problematic situation. He is a very important part of the team.

"Even he does not have experience, you want a centre back you are used to."
