Caring Motherwell great-gran is this week's Say It With Flowers recipient

Selfless 81-year-old Nan Kirwan is always helping out her family and takes care of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a thank you, daughter-in-law Theresa nominated Nan for this week's arrangement.

Theresa told Lanarkshire Live: “My mother-in-law is always helping the family out and there is nothing that she wouldn’t do for them.

“Her health is not so good but she still finds time to watch her grandkids.”

Nan lives in Motherwell and has four children, Frankie, Mary, Peter and Jacqueline; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and in her younger years she worked in the former King’s sweets factory in Wishaw, and was a cleaner in her later years before she retired.

Following a recent accident Nan is not able to get out as often as she used to, but despite this, she is always ready to offer a helping hand and has devoted her life to caring for her family.

Theresa told us: “She loves the bingo. She used to go on a lot of trips away with her friends, but then she stopped because she had an accident at home.

“She has brittle bones and she doesn’t get out as much now. She relies on her family but still wants to look after her grandkids.”

And when Theresa told us about Nan, we were only too pleased to help, surprising her with this stunning floral arrangement, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.

“She has devoted her life to bringing up her family and I think she will be shocked to receive the flowers, but delighted too,” Theresa told us.

And on receiving the flowers a delighted Nan told us: “I would like to thank Theresa for thinking of me. It was really unexpected and was a lovely surprise.

“I would also like to thank the Wishaw Press for nominating me and to Pixies Petals for the beautiful flowers.”
