A crew member on the DALI cargo ship confirmed the safety of all 22 members on board following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday. The Apostleship of the Sea director, Andy Middleton, shared that he had contacted a crew member after learning about the incident early Tuesday morning. The crew, consisting of individuals from India, had departed for Sri Lanka earlier that day.
Middleton recounted his conversation with the ship's captain the day before the incident, where they discussed taking a longer route to avoid potential risks along the Yemen coast. The decision to sail around the tip of South Africa was deemed a safer alternative.
The Apostleship of the Sea, a ministry dedicated to seafarers, provides support to crew members visiting the Port of Baltimore. Their mission involves ensuring the well-being of seafarers and reminding them of their inherent human dignity during their time in Baltimore.
