The stunning news was tweeted today at about 10:40 am Arizona time that Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Andre Baccellia is being cut, but will be signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Well, not really stunning because hopscotching between the roster and practice has been the Life of Andre since first signing with the Cardinals on April 15, 2021.
He had signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chiefs in 2020 and was waived by Kansas City on Aug. 19. He was then signed by the Patriots on Aug. 29, but was waived a week later. That was it for the pandemic season until April of 2021.
That year, he was waived by the Cardinals on Aug. 31 and signed to the practice squad, where he remained all season. The roller coaster began the next year after he was signed to a futures contract on Jan. 19, 2022.
We’ll take it year by year and hopefully no one will get dizzy by the array of transactions. I guess if Baccellia doesn’t, no one else should!
2022: Waived Aug. 30, practice squad Aug. 31, 53-man roster Sept. 10, waived Sept. 20, practice squad Sept. 22, elevated for games in Week 3 and 4, 53-man roster Oct. 8, waived Oct. 11, practice squad Oct. 13, 53-man roster Nov. 26, waived Nov. 28, practice squad Nov. 30, 53-man roster Dec. 31.
That season, he played eight games and caught seven passes for 45 yards while playing 118 offensive snaps and 20 on special teams.
2023: Waived Aug. 29, practice squad Aug. 30, 53-man roster Oct. 28, waived Oct. 30, practice squad Nov. 1, 53-man roster Nov. 4, waived Nov. 6, practice squad Nov. 8, 53-man roster Nov. 18, waived Dec. 1, practice squad Dec. 13, signed to futures contract Jan. 8, 2024.
Baccellia played five games last season and had no statistics in 49 offensive snaps and 18 on special teams.
For those counting, that’s 14 roster transactions in 2022 including the two elevations and 12 in 2024.
Now, apparently, the merry-go-round begins again.
