Background
Gaines is a rookie, drafted by the Cardinals in the fourth round out of UCLA. He played guard and center (two games) in college.
He is incredibly athletic and has a metric that suggests he will be a longtime NFL starter.
2023 salary, cap hit
Gaines has a four-year rookie contract.
He will make the league minimum in 2023, $750,000.
His cap hit will be about $933,000 because of the proration of his $732,000 signing bonus.
Roster outlook
Thus far in training camp, Gaines has been practicing at center with the second-team offense.
While he probably isn’t a lock to make the final roster, his youth, athleticism and versatility make him very likely to make the team.
