Cardinals to wait till after Super Bowl to announce new HC

The Arizona Cardinals have two finalists left for their vacant head coaching job. They will conclude interviews at the end of the week.

However, an announcement of the new coach will not come right away.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and reported originally in the Phoenix area by Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, the Cardinals will wait until next week after the Super Bowl to announce who will be their new head coach, replacing Kliff Kingsbury.

The Cardinals held a second interview with New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and are scheduled to interview Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumno on Friday.

The Cardinals fired Kliff Kingsbury after the team went 4-13 in his fourth season with the team, less than a year after he was given a five–year contract extension.

Why the delay in an announcement?

It could be that the Cardinals still want to interview coaches on the staffs of either team in the Super Bowl.

It also might simply be because the Cardinals are hosting the Super Bowl at State Farm Stadium in Glendale and team owner Michael Bidwill is both too busy and doesn’t want to take away from the big game between the Eagles and the Chiefs.

Either way, this process will drag into yet another week.
