Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon expects QB Kyler Murray to play in 2023

The Arizona Cardinals begin the 2023 season with quarterback Kyler Murray on PUP (physically unable to perform list) as he finishes his recovery from a torn ACL he suffered last December. He must miss at least the first four games of the season.

While many outlets and analysts have floated the idea that the Cardinals not only might not get him back in 2023 and might even want to sit him out for the season in what many believe is going to be a tank job in hopes of landing a top rookie quarterback in the draft next year and protecting themselves against Murray’s contractual injury guarantees, that is not the case or the plan, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon.

Gannon, appearing Tuesday on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM, said he expects Murray to play this season, although a timeline for his exact return is not yet known.

Gannon selected Murray as one of the team’s six team captains, something he wouldn’t do for a player not going to suit up all season.

Murray is “all in” with his health, he is engaged in team meetings, he is supportive of teammates and progressing daily.

There is absolutely no plan in place to keep him out of the entire season.
