The Arizona Cardinals made Houston quarterback Clayton Tune the first of two fifth-round selections they made. He gives the Cardinals five quarterbacks on their roster now.
What grade do they deserve for the pick?
Grade: D
A quarterback in the fifth round on a team where the roster is full of holes seems like a wasted pick.
They have a clear starter in Kyler Murray. They have Colt McCoy, David Blough and Jeff Driskel.
Can Tune even beat out Blough or Driskel?
He is athletic and he was productive in college. He even has prototypical size for the position.
But the Cardinals could have gone with literally any other position and have it be worth more.
There is some value to having a young quarterback you can develop on the roster. Most teams have three quarterbacks on the team. He could turn into a valuable backup and, perhaps, if lightning strikes, a starting-caliber player who could be traded in the future.
While he is talented, it was almost a waste of a pick.
