Cardinals’ 2nd attempt to acquire WR Marquise Brown was successful

The Arizona Cardinals’ big move during the first round of the 2022 NFL draft was not a player they selected. Instead, they used their first-round pick in a trade to acquire receiver Marquise Brown from the Baltimore Ravens.

It was not the first time they had tried to acquire Brown.

General manager Steve Keim revealed that when Brown came out in the draft in 2019, the year the Cardinals selected quarterback Kyler Murray first overall, they had Brown as the No. 13 player on their board.

As Brown began to fall because of a foot injury he sustained leading up to the draft, they wanted to try and move up to get him.

“I tried to trade back into (the first round) to select him, and we couldn’t get up there,” Keim said Thursday night. “So, maybe the second time around, it’s going to work.”

They ended up selecting cornerback Byron Murphy with the first pick of the second round, who, according to Keim, was their No. 5 player on the board.
